For the third year in a row the Barça Academy Yokohama organised the Yokohama Cup, a tournament aimed at children in the U7/U8, U9/U10 and U11/U12 age groups. This year 19 teams and more than 220 participants competed over three days at the Fuji Midorino Kyüka Mura facilities, a record for the event. The three day tournament allowed the boys and girls the chance to stay at traditional tatami rooms at the venue.
Three days of intense activity
The objective of the tournament, beyond the sporting element of representing Barça's style of play and the Club's values, was also to give the players taking part the time needed for them to feel at home develop their confidence as well as meeting other participants from the other academies taking part from Tokyo, Kanagawa and Fukushima.
The team each played an average of between six and eight games and were accompanied by their families who came to support those taking part and also spend some time with other participants' families. The Karasumori Stars were the winners of the U7/U8 age group, Barça Academy Yokohama Araujo took the U9/U10 age group and FC Odawara were the victors in the U11/U12 group.
