A successful Barça Academy Austin President’s Cup

The Barça Academy Austin organises a tournament with more than 1,200 players taking part

Taking advantage of a long weekend due to a public holiday for Presidents' Day in the USA, the Barça Academy Austin organised a tournament with more than 115 teams and more than 1,200 players involved. Most of the teams came from the neighbouring cities of Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Laredo and other towns in Texas, however, the Barça Academy Chicago also made the trip, bringing 9 teams and more than 100 players.

Over the three days of competition, a total of 206 games were played involving boys and girls from all age groups. The youngest teams were the U8s and the oldest the U19 teams. Despite local rivalries in a great number of the matches, the atmosphere was never less than sporting and the organisation worked tirelessly to make sure all the games kicked off at their allotted time slot. The whole experience was a great success and Barça Academy Austin are already looking ahead to next season's edition.

Interesting detail

The games were competitive to a fault and in one of the finals between the Academies from Chicago and Austin, the winner was decided after a penalty shoot out with 20 spot kicks, given that in normal time and in extra time the teams could not be separated.
