The Barça Academy is a place where the values of sport are taught through football and the boys and girls who attend the club's 30 schools around the world get to experience that every day. But beyond sport, there are other values that the Barça Academy tries to teach young athletes to apply to their daily lives.
In 2020, BA Budapest set up a charity programme for boys and girls from two schools and three kindergartens with a very high poverty rate and hence risk of social exclusion in Ozd, a town in northern Hungary.
The programme uses football as a means of integration and acquisition of habits, creating a positive environment for the children's development. A series of training sessions were held with the coaches who run the football sessions, to teach and exchange the same ideas employed at the Barça Academy. They also paid two visits to the Academy itself to see the coaches and teams in action.
Since the programme started, different joint activities have been carried out, such as the 2022 and 2023 Christmas Galas. The boys and girls from the schools also visited the Barça Academy Budapest for a training session and matches organised with the help of the Barça coaches. At the end, each participant received a gift.
The two coaches from Budapest also visited the children at their own schools in February and March of this year. The first visit was to deliver donated toys that the Academy players no longer used but were still in perfect condition.
Training with group of teenagers
Barça Academy Budapest also teamed up with a local association that works with teenagers outside of school hours with the aim of guaranteeing a safe environment and promoting integration. 14 players enjoyed a training session with the Barça Academy coaches, where they were able to experience the Barça method first-hand.
