The Barça Academy World Cup presented by Allianz 2022 reached its climax with the tournament finals played on the grass of pitch 7 of the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, the host venue for this edition. The trophies were shared equally among Barça Escola Barcelona - who dominated the younger categories - and the Barça Academy Camps Italia - who took the under-12 and under-14 titles.
The presentation ceremony was presided over by FC Barcelona vice-president for sport, Rafa Yuste, and Barça Academy project director, Carles Martín, along with Presidential Council member, Enric Masip. This ninth edition saw the participation of 1,150 children aged 6 to 14 years old, representing 15 countries and 26 Barça Academies and Barça Academy Camps.
This 2022 edition’s competitive action will be remembered for the clear domination of teams from Barça Escola Barcelona and the Barça Academy Camps Italia, who shared the winner’s trophies. In the under-8s category, Barça Escola Barcelona Blau beat Barça Academy Camps Suiza Blau 4-1, while in the under-10s, Barça Escola Barcelona Blau had to comeback from a goal down to win 3-1 against the Barça Academy Budapest.
With respect to the older categories, in the under-12s, Barça Academy Yokohama (Japan) were unable to stop the dominance of European teams during this edition, losing 3-0 to Barça Academy Camps Italia Blau, meaning they also didn’t manage to emulate the win by their compatriots, Barça Academy Katsushika, in the last edition (held in 2019). In the under-14s, an early goal by Barça Academy Camps Italia Blau sealed a tight win against Barça Escola Barcelona (1-0).
Looking at the statistics, this edition saw 352 games played, and the 104 teams managed to score 1,600 goals.
