Barça Academy World Cup cancelled due to global effects of COVID-19

Ninth edition of the tournament was due to be played from April 6 to 9

This year’s edition of the Barça Academy World Cup, the international tournament that every Easter bring together soccer schools from all around the planet on the FC Barcelona facilities has been cancelled due to the worldwide effects caused by the spread of coronavirus COVID-19. The club has taken this decision to safeguard the health of the more than 2,100 boys and girls, families and staff members who were planning to come to Barcelona from different places around the world, and also to preserve the integrity, good organisation and competitive spirit that had suffered from the effects of this situation.

In recent weeks, the club has been analysing the situation caused by this health crisis and following the recommendations of international authorities and organisations has finally made the decision to cancel this year’s edition. The fact that the event was going to bring together 2,100 children and families from almost fifty Barça Academies in some twenty countries presented a potential risk situation for the participants and other parties involved in running the competition.

Barça Academy is already working on plans for the 2021 edition so that, once this chapter has been closed, children from all around the world can once again enjoy this great event that is such a unique expression of love for Barça, sport, friendship and cultural enrichment.
