Brazil have said goodbye to the World Cup after sustaining one of the worst defeats ever in the country’s history. The host nation fell 7-1 in Belo Horizonte against Germany in this Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final. Neymar Jr (injured) and Dani Alves (reserve) didn’t participate in the match.
The first minutes of the match didn’t reveal what was in store for the Seleçao. Brazil took the initiative, were intense and deep just as they did against Chile and Colombia. But Müller’s goal on 11 minutes changed everything for the home side. 18 minutes later, the result was 5-0; Klose - top goalscorer in World Cup history -, Koors (2) and Khedira fired for four unanswered goals.
Scolari made two subs at the break: Ramires and Paulinho came in for Fernandinho and Hulk. Löw, on the other hand, took our Hummels. Two more goals from Schürrle – who came in for Klose – and capped off a perfect performance for Germany. Oscar scored in the dying minutes to make it 7-1.
Germany will face the winner of the Netherlands v Argentina semi-final.
