FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta took part in the World in Progress congress, organized by the Prisa group, with a presentation entitled “Sport and Geopolitics.” In his speech, moderated by Lu Andrés, a journalist with Cadena SER, Laporta highlighted the importance of FC Barcelona as an institution that transcends the sporting arena and has become a major player on the international stage.

The president recalled that Barça is “more than a club” both because of its symbolic dimension as a representative of Catalonia in the world and because of its global reach, with more than 20 million fans around the globe. He stressed that sport, in the current context, is also a space where global identities, values, and interests are projected, and that FC Barcelona plays a unique role as a platform for dialogue, recognition, and cultural influence.

The event took place at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya and was attended by the president of the Prisa Group, Joseph Oughourlian, the director of the World in Progress congress, Nina Khalatyan, and the general director of Radio and Audiovisual Business at Prisa Media, Jaume Serra. Before Laporta, Banco Sabadell President Josep Oliu also spoke at the conference, giving a presentation entitled “The financial system facing market challenges,” moderated by El País journalist Xavier Vidal-Folch.

Laporta was accompanied by a large delegation from FC Barcelona, including the director of the Economic Department, Àngel Riudalbas; the general director of the Barça Foundation, Marta Segú; and several other members of the club.

The World in Progress conference brings together leaders, innovators, and thinkers from different disciplines with the aim of addressing major global challenges from a multidisciplinary perspective and promoting collaboration around solutions with a real impact.
